Porteau is an indie folk band led by Victoria Williams and Craig Stevenson. Their collaboration grew out of happy coincidence, a shared love for their home of B.C., and an uncompromised musical vision. Ethereal vocals take center stage, supported by washes of looped and modulated guitar. With lyrics steeped in folklore, they use their surrounding West Coast landscape as a backdrop to explore and unearth stories of human nature. They are currently recording their debut album, Water’s Gate, a thematic collection of songs set for release in fall 2018. Porteau fuses their background in jazz with folk music, electronic elements and open soundscapes. Their sound is intimate yet expansive, carving a wave into their own unmapped styling.
Wired To The Sky
Wired To The Sky is the ever-evolving solo project of Canadian artist, Dylan Perkons. After relocating from Montreal to the West Coast following the dissolution of his orchestral-folk project, Mind That Bird, Perkons began writing and performing new material, frequently collaborating with a rotating cast of Vancouver Island musicians. In late 2016, he and his band entered the studio to record their debut album, produced by Juno Award-winner Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Black Mountain, Yukon Blonde). The 2017 release, titled Steady Sparrow, Steady Flight finds Perkons’ residing comfortably in a post-Americana landscape. Though his dusty baritone remains at the front and center of the album, the dynamic arrangements help carry the listener through the songs. Swaying between colorful indie folk and eerie country-noir, the music compliments the earnest writing woven throughout the songs. Wired To The Sky is currently working on a follow-up release produced by Evening Hymns’ Jonas Bonnetta. The as-of-yet untitled effort is slated for an early 2019 release.
